How often do we wear Indian attire?
We usually wear Indian only on festival days or family occasions. So, Why not design something which can be worn in your day to day routine? I think kurtas have the potential to attract more eyes than your western wear, like jackets, shirts and what not. Keeping in mind a bit of western culture and street-style, I designed a zipped kurta for a family occasion yet wearable in your day to day routine. Have a look.
The silhouette of the Kurta
I brought a subtle royal blue color cotton silk fabric which could give a great fall. So, I took an inspiration from long coats and thought of giving it an opening in the front. The kurta has a shirt color instead of a Nehru collar (keeping in mind a bit of western touch). The kurta is closed area till the waist level and then has an opening dividing the kurta into two panels which makes this kurta much more stylish and royal. Full sleeves are much elegant when it comes to Indian attires as you can play with the surface of the sleeves with embroideries and folded sleeves are always counted hot.
The zippers on the sleeves
Street-style is something which is increasing in India from day to day. Who said that zippers can be used only in your denims and usable purpose only? I think, it can be used as a design element too. I used YKK zippers and placed them on the shoulders and sleeves of the kurta. One would not have worked in terms of symmetry and design, So I placed 3 zippers and gave this kurta a proper western look.
Due to the opening in front of the kurta, a voluminous fit under the kurta will make you feel bulky and you’ll look fat. Wearing something sleek and sharp under such silhouettes of kurtas is a better idea. So, I decided to wear skinny fit denim under the kurta which enhanced the silhouette of the kurta and attracted more eyes. You can go with churi-daar pajamas as well, their fit is quit sharp and truly Indian. Straight fit and boot cut denims which are going to be back in fashion is also a great idea to chip in.
I have this immense love for patent shine. Everything that is patent gives me chills. I ordered these patent sneaks from Koovs fashion last summer. Their shine is on point and they compliment every outfit I wear them with. Ranveer Singh being one of my favorite fashionista wears sneakers under everything, be it a formal suited up look or Indian attire. So, I decided to wear these sneakers under this dapper street-style look which complemented the color schemes of the attire.
